about me

Music played a big part in my younger years…

As a child, I spent most of my spare time playing drums and percussion in youth orchestras and bands, and singing in school choirs. I seemed to have a natural ear for music. I could sing in tune, harmonise easily, find chords and pick out melodies on the piano by ear.

But I struggled to read pitch, and in my impatience continued to play by ear rather than knuckling down and getting to grips with music theory. I chose not to take music O Level (or A Level), and in the end, despite dabbling with music here and there over the years, life and my career took me in a different direction.

Now in my 50s, I’m Changing Tempo - embracing a new chapter and a chance to pursue my passion. Music is my language. It’s how I connect with the world and translate my experiences. So I’ll be diving into music theory from the ground up and starting to compose orchestral and cinematic pieces in and Garageband and Logic Pro.

Changing Tempo is where I’ll share my progress, discoveries, and reflections, in the hope they might inspire others to reconnect with their own love of music.

Whether you’re starting out, returning after years away, or simply curious, I’d love you to follow along.
